Jonathan Cape

The last page of a comic that we were asked to produce for a Jonathan Cape competition, I've saved it to enter for next year instead as I wasn't entirely sure about it. Mine was about the terrors of drawing in public.

Hopefully I'll be making a lot more work asap so the blog won't be such a wasteland anymore.

V&A

Some drawings from the V&A today, Muji brush pens have saved my skin recently. There is a something or other with Posy Simmonds on 1st June which I may attend.  The statue in the first image reminds me of 'Lulu and the Flying Babies' quite a bit. This is not a bad thing although I'd rather not sub-consciously copy other people, I suspect that will be the problem with only using black inky pens instead of wibbly graphite.

The Magic Pencil

The Magic Pencil

For FMP this year, myself and a couple of friends are organising a drawing event to encourage collaboration during university and also to take the pressure off making concept driven illustration (at least for one evening anyway).

Anyone who fancies it is more than welcome to pop along.

Also, we've set up Radish Collective, an inclusive group made for publicising the students of Kingston Illustration and Animation. So far through this, I've been able to meet up with Rose Blake, Lizzy Stewart and Lorna Scobie which has been A+

Late easter

I got one of those phones that everyone has and that app that everyone has I am hannahswanwick on the app.

Starting to think about what I actually want to draw and why it isn't something that I just 'do' anymore. The only drawing that we do specifically for school is observational location/ life studies and these are not things that I'm drawn towards normally. I like non-repetitive patterns and there not being something distinctly recognisable within a picture.

Might take a better photo soon, excuse the mess.

I did some work that I like and am (almost, very nearly) proud of.

Definitely going to make another print next week, it probably will not be to do with WW2.

Slightly related is this clip from Peep Show that has been on a loop in my head this week.
